Is Acima legit?
Yes — Acima is a real lease-to-own provider. "Legit" just doesn't mean cheap.
- Acima is an established company offered at many retailers, in store and online.
- There's no credit check, and you take the item home today.
- Carried to the full term, it commonly runs 2–3× the cash price.
- The catch: the deal only works at the early buyout. Ridden to term, it's very expensive.
Is Acima a real company?
Yes. Acima is a widely used lease-to-own company. Many stores offer it at checkout, in person and online. You lease the item, make payments, and can own it at the end.
The real risk isn't Acima itself. It's impersonators. A text or email asking for an upfront fee to "release" your lease is a scam. A real approval never asks you to pay a fee first.
What Acima costs

✓ Acima fits if
- You can hit the early buyout inside the first window.
- It's the only door open for a true necessity.
- You've priced the buyout and can clear it in time.
✕ Skip it if
- You'll carry it to term and pay roughly triple.
- You could buy the item secondhand instead.
- You could wait a paycheck or use a card.
The early-purchase window is everything. Buy the item inside it and you pay near the cash price. Miss it and the total balloons to two or three times the sticker.
One missed payment can also mean the item is repossessed. Use Acima only if you can hit that buyout, or a card you pay off in full usually costs far less.
